Green infrastructure is our strategy for this purpose. It links together urban green spaces, biodiversity, experiencing nature, recreation and environmental management.
Extensive woodland, interlinked green corridors, climate-friendly cycle paths and the slag heap landscapes create an environment with high quality of life for over five million people.
And with the IGA Ruhr Metropolis 2027, we will be hosting the largest horticultural exhibition in the world. Under the leading question, “How do we want to live tomorrow?”, a laboratory space for sustainable urban landscapes and community life in the cities of the future is created.
GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE RUHR AREA
Green infrastructure is an essential element in the Ruhr area. Together with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, the cities and districts and many other partners, the Ruhr Regional Association is drawing up a strategy for the future development of green infrastructure.
We are also implementing measures in action programs and organize networking days and specialist events.
